Mentor Matchmaking
“I have a few mentors that I hold dear. It’s refreshing to know that someone you respect and whose work you revere, was at one point where you are now – facing the same issues and challenges. Their advice and guidance has been invaluable. So much so that I’m proud to have followed their footsteps to be in the position I am now. Ready, willing and inspired to return the favor.”
-France Yllana, AIGA DFW Vice President

How do a handful of twenty-somethings from UT become one of the largest and most-called-upon mobile consulting firms in the world in just under three years?
With 190 employees all over the world, and a roster of a few dozen clients like Google, Audi, Samsung and Dell, the folks at Mutual Mobile are in the unique position to answer that question.
Join us as we welcome Jason Story, Director of Business Development, and Amanda McGlothlin, Creative Director of Mutual Mobile. They’ll talk about their work, their process, and hopefully, the secret of their success.

Free Screening of Lemonade
Join us Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Clampitt Creative Center for a free pop-up screening of Lemonade — a film about what people who were once paid to be creative for a living do when they’re laid off: get creative with their own lives.
Lemonade is an inspirational film produced by long-time creative Erik Proulx about 16 advertising professionals who lost their jobs and found their calling, encouraging people to listen to that little voice inside their head that asks, “What if?”
Learn about the film and the creatives being profiled here.
6pm Drinks/7pm Screening
Admission is free for all members and non-members, however donations will be collected to help the film maker with his new endeavor, Lemonade Detroit. All donations will be catalogued and those donating will be listed as “producers” on the next film, currently in production.
Want to do some more good? We’ll be collecting gently used coats for Austin Street Center.
All those donating (both to Lemonade Detroit and to Austin Street Center) will be entered into a raffle for some cool prizes.

The First Annual Creative Flea
The holidays tend to bring a lot of pressure to the already full plates of us in the design world. While certificates to Chili’s might be okay for your CPA cousin to give out, your gifts call for a bit more creativity. Now, you can shake that monkey off your back with AIGA DFW’s First Annual Creative Flea at Oil & Cotton in the Bishop Arts District.
Give the unexpected — buy great goods made by your friends from the local design community. Get your holiday portrait taken at our photo booth by past AIGA DFW president Bo Parker. Nibble some home baked goodies from our student chapters. So far our participating artists include Color Box Design & Letterpress, Studio 204, Lunch Buddies Press, UNT CDA, Richard Koehler, Design Pastime, Artifacture, West End Social Club, Brandon Griswald, Erik Schuessler, Frames By Jewell, Brian Gibb and more. Check back soon for artist updates as our list is growing.
AIGA DFW’s First Annual Creative Flea takes place December 10, 2011 from 1pm – 6pm, and admission is free for members and nonmembers.
Interested in selling your own goods? Contact Frances at communications@dallas.aiga.org by November 30 to sign up.
PS - After the Creative Flea ends, find more crafty goodies at Oil & Cotton’s 2nd Annual Holiday Mercantile, and explore the Bishop Arts district — home to over 60 independent boutiques, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, galleries and theaters.
